What a difference a week makes!
Sunday 22 April 2018
Unbelievable as it sounds, because I don’t often get ‘my legs out’, I have been walking around in shorts for the last couple of days. It really does feel like the height of summer here at Cherry Lakes.
A real contrast from just a week ago when Scott Saunders and his friend Elliot fished in the Cottage swim (apologies guys I should have mentioned you in my last update having done so well and sending through some great photos…..but I was away blanking in Belgium!). As you can see from the photo below the trees were virtually bare and they were well wrapped up. They did land 5 Carp including 3 x 28lbers, two Mirrors and a Common along with a two further Carp around 22lb.
This weekend the fish are spending all day cruising and enjoying the sun. We have been seeing some of the bigger Carp, several of which look very heavy. Fingers crossed some of these get landed over the next few weeks. I will be very disappointed if we do not see a good few thirties out over the next month and hopefully we will break the lake record which currently stands at 40-04. Time will tell.
Neil Ash, who is on a return visit to Cherry Lake in Grebe Lodge has had the biggest Carp so far this weekend, a Common of 27-11 which followed this stunning night caught 25-04 Ghost Mirror. I just love these ‘Ghosties’ and there about ten more Ghosties bigger than this one.
So far this weekend Keith Williams, who is on his first visit to Cherry Lake and is staying in Heron Lodge, is the top rod. He has landed 3 Carp over 20lb including Mirrors of 24-08 and 24-00. Sorry Keith no space for the photos….yet!
