What a Whopper!
Cherry Lakes biggest Carp!
Monday 24 April 2023
Cherry Lakes has a new Whopper! 'Clarissa' is our newest biggest Carp , and she absolutely dwarfs me and is clearly of 'world-record' proportions!
Unfortunately Clarissa does not like boilies so anglers won't be able to catch it! All our guests and visitors to Cherry Lakes will however be able to see her, as she is located in the raised flower bed opposite the entrance gates.
I am told that Clarissa has 'mystical powers' and an appropriate 'gift' to it should ensure a successful visit to Cherry Lakes. Sorry Clarissa does not accept cheques!
We also have an even bigger announcement! Judith and I have become very proud Grandparents. Our perfect Granddaughter is called Alba Elizabeth. She was not quite a 'double' weighing in at 7lb 6oz. Absolutely gorgeous just like her Mother (our daughter Victoria). Of course, I am not biased at all!!
Regular Peter Jones, who is a manager at the well known tackle shop 'The Tackle Box', visited this weekend with good friend Ian Noble. Peter who has had a rough time recently needed a little bit of R&R and thought a weekend on Cherry Springs would be just what the doctor ordered! The weekend started slowly, with a light frost on Saturday morning not helping fishing across the complex.
However Peter and Ian stuck to their guns and once the Carp started feeding on Saturday afternoon they did very well. Rather than concentrating on the margins, the pair focussed on the 'middle' and in difficult conditions they did well to shared 12 Carp including 4 over 20lb . The best looking of which was this 21-08 scaley Mirror held by Peter above.
Father and son team, Martin and Paul Dean, fished in Egret Lodge this weekend and they also had a good time. Paul landed a Carp of 26lb whilst Martin had this fantastic Roach of 2-04. This Roach has obviously been enjoying the Carp pellets! Even with my newly acquired dislike of Roach can see this is a lovely specimen fish.
Fishing on Cherry Lake was very slow this weekend. The Carp were feeding heavily on Friday afternoon, but a Friday night frost seemed to knock the Carp for six! Whilst the Carp were showing it proved hard to get a bite. Top rod was my good friend Simon Littmoden who had two including a Mirror of 32-08. I have however included this photo above of Dave Wright who caught this lovely Common of 31-08 on Thursday evening from Grebe Lodge. This lovely Carp deserves to have it's photo published!
Well done to everyone above.
