Tom Nixon-Taylor’s 35lb Mirror sets a new Cherry Lake record
Thursday 10 August 2017
Tom Nixon-Taylor has been staying this week in Osprey Lodge with his Grand-parents and has been showing us all how it is done.
Tom, who is 15, is clearly already a very accomplished angler. He knows what he is doing and handles even the bigger Carp very well. So far this week Tom is top rod with 5 Carp. The fish caught to date have weighed 24-00 and 24-06 (both Mirrors), 25-06 (Leather), 29-08 (Common) and a stunning 35-00 Mirror.
All of the Carp have come from range fishing to the shallows and far margin. The successful hook baits have all been wafters. In catching the 35lb Mirror, Tom becomes the new Cherry Lake junior record holder as well as the newest member of the Cherry Lakes 30+ club. Extremely well done and top angling Tom.
This is the third time this particular Carp has been caught this year. It was caught approx two weeks ago by Dave Reynolds at 35-04, also from Osprey Lodge. As you can tell from the photos below, this very colourful Carp was in excellent condition and stunning to see.
At the other end of the scale, we have had Shane McConnell staying in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs with his father John. These two guys had a great time and were a real pleasure to get to know. Even with the fishing slow at times their spirits never flagged and they were always happy and laughing. It was also good to see John showing Shane how it is done, as well as catching the biggest of their stay in the shape of this very long Mirror Carp of 20-02 below. Well done John.
We still have Cherry Lake Cottage available for 01-04 September. If you fancy a weekend break, a bit of fishing and a dip in the hot tub, then give us a call on 01285 869887
