Tom Chitson enjoys a brace of Upper Twenty Commons
Friday 20 April 2018
A good week on Cherry Lake with the Carp now finally ‘woken up’ from their winter slumber and have gone straight into full on ‘sun-bathing’ mode. Our weather is truly mad!
A total of 12 Carp have been landed this week from Cherry Lake including 7 over 20lb’s to 29-08.
Top rod this week has been Tom Chitson who fished in the Cottage swim and has been on his first visit to Cherry Lakes. Feeding some 5KG of the Cherry Lakes Bio-Cream boilie, he landed 5 Carp including a brace of cracking upper twenty Commons of 29-08 and 27-04. Tom was very pleased with his efforts and has promised to return next year. His partner and Mother are glad because they liked the Cottage’s hot-tub!
The hot weather of the last two days ha been great for fish spotting on all of the lakes. Walking around Cherry Pool with fishery manager Dave today, we could count well over 200 Carp. An incredible figure given you cannot see more than a foot below the surface! Cherry Springs was equally ‘black with fish’. With the weather due to change from tomorrow (Saturday) we are hoping to see some excellent catch the fish feed hard ahead of spawning.
Me….what have i been up to? I had my first venture abroad Carp fishing for a good few years. Together with my good friend Chris Hughes we visited a lake in Belgium. In short it was hard work with the Carp not really playing ball. Chris did extremely well to stalk a big thirty pounder as well as catch a Grass Carp. I did manage a 16lb Bream which is a PB! I did wonder whether this was big enough to save me from a blank?! Judith says NO and that it is my way of showing ‘empathy’ with all of our guests who have blanked at Cherry Lakes! Well I certainly know how they all feel (and I was in a bivvy with a bad back!).
