The Wintle’s lead the way
Thursday 31 May 2018
A good week across the Cherry Lakes complex with anglers reporting Carp to 20lb+ from both Cherry Springs (Kingfisher Lodge) and Cherry Springs (Cherry Mere) as well as some good Carp from Cherry Lake. The Carp have enjoyed the warm weather, lots of rain and low(ish) pressure and have been feeding rather than spawning..
The Wintle family, who have been on their first visit to Cherry Lakes, have been staying in Heron Lodge. Dad Nick and son Bayley have been doing the fishing, with Mum Linda and brother Owen chilling. I have to say it is always a pleasure for us to meet such a positive and happy family which they have all been since they arrived. Nick and Bayley have also caught some cracking fish which has made their smiles even broader….with Linda only moaning about having to get up at 04.00 in the rain to photo big fish!!
Nick and Bayley have caught Six Carp to date, 4 over 20lb including this 30-12 Common below. In doing so Nick/Bradley (Nick struck and Bayley landed) have become the 90th member of the Cherry Lakes 30+ club. Interestingly most of the Carp have come from a spot in the weed some 35 meters out. An area which most anglers miss by going further out. Well done to you both.
This Common, which we think is a male fish, was caught by Bill Osbourne in January at a similar weight of 30-08. This is one of this year’s new 30′s, so it is good to see it steady in weight even given some recent spawning activity.
Regular guests Steven Keen and his wife Donna have by contrast been many times and have been staying in Osprey Lodge. Steven normally does well on Cherry Lake but so far he has not managed one of the bigger Carp. He is however getting ever closer to his targeted 30+ club polo shirt. He upped his Cherry Lakes PB during this week’s visit. The 28-06 Mirror pictured below was the biggest of 3 twenties in his 4 Carp catch to date. Well done Steven…..there is always next time! Perhaps you will become our 100th member of the 30+ club when you visit in August? If so…..you will deserve to.
Mark Grainger has been staying with his family in Cherry Lake Cottage. He has been squeezing in some fishing in between his family ‘duties’. He was very pleased when I saw him earlier with his new PB, a good looking Cherry Lake Mirror of 27-00.
