The two Ian's fantastic weekend on Cherry Mere
They share a 30 Carp catch including 10 x 20's to 32-04
Thursday 8 February 2024
As I mentioned in my previous update, last weekend the conditions were great for winter Carp fishing. Cherry Lake producing an amazing 2 forties and 4 twenties. Cherry Mere also switched on big time.
The two Ian's, Ian Blackwell and Ian Taplin, are regular guests at Cherry Lakes. They normally choose Cherry Lake, but once a year they decide to 'have a social' and book Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere. They always do well on Cherry Mere, partially because it has a great track record of producing during the winter months, but also because they are good anglers. Their visit this year coincided with the weekend 'switch-on'!
The two Ian's shared an amazing 30 Carp between them, and this was without fishing all through the night. They said this was always their plan, but I think they were 'knackered' after catching so many.
My understanding s that the Ian's picked them up their Carp from around the margins, generally fishing no more that a rod length out from all around the lake.
Included in their catch were 10 Carp over 20lb+, the biggest being a 32-04 Mirror to Ian Blackwell. This Mirror, pictured in the lead photo above, is the second 30lb+ Carp of the year for Cherry Mere. This Carp did not appear in my 30's catalogue for 2022 or 2023 and as such I think it is a new 30+ for this lake.
I could have picked another 3 alternative photos to feature here, such was the quality of the Carp caught looking great in their winter colours. Ian Blackwell's 28lb pictured above is a real chunk!
I owe apologies to Ian Taplin, because although I have his photos, I have somehow managed to lose my note of the weights of his Carp featured here. No defence, but looking at the two Carp he has pictured here, they should be a delight to catch for any angler regardless of their weight.
Well done to the two Ian's, great angling and we look forward to hopefully seeing you again later this year.
