The tough get going!
Sunday 13 March 2016
A slow week at Cherry Lakes, which in part was due to us not being very busy. It was also due to difficult conditions. The week started cold, with frosts and even some snow (see the last post for a picture of Andy Smith holding a Cherry Mere Carp in the snow) and has finished with the first real period of high pressure for months (cool, bright, frosty and foggy). But as the song goes ‘When the going gets tough……the tough get going’!
Ryan Jenkins fished last week in Heron Lodge on Cherry Lake. His first trip to Cherry Lakes. He did very well to land two cracking Carp of 26-03 and 23-04, both pictured below, and departed very happily saying ‘Arnie style’ ‘I’ll be back!’. The 23-04 Common which was a good looking fish, strangely had no anal fin. This is obviously a ‘birth defect’ and despite the fact that Dave and I have seen every Carp stocked into Cherry Lake, we obviously did not spot this when she was stocked. Stll it does not look like it has affected her and she put up a good fight.
Paul Carmichael and good friend James Matthewes have been fishing in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs this weekend. To date they have landed 10 Carp including this stunning Mirror Carp of 22lb, also pictuered below. A small red pop up fished quite close to the far bank doing the trick for Paul. As far as I can tell, this is the first time this Carp has been caught. She was stocked this winter at 20-08 and is clearly doing well. I think she is destined to become a thirty, which with the normal on-going feeding programme about to start, we will do our best to make sure she attains this target weight.
