Ryan Young starts 2020 with a bang!
He lands 'The Pretty One' at 38-02
Wednesday 1 January 2020
Ryan Young is certainly keeping me busy! I titled yesterday's update, 'Ryan Young finishes the year in style' following his winter brace of a Common of 29-04 and a lovely Mirror of 21-02 (see previous update for details)', following his frantic 5 minute spell yesterday. Well he has now gone one further with catching 'The Pretty One' at 38-02!
Judith and I had not been back too long from our News Year Eve celebration at the local Royal Oak pub, when I got a message about Ryan having just caught a big Mirror from Osprey Lodge. As soon as I saw the fish I could see it was 'The Pretty One'. Even with the flash photography, it is easy to see why we have given this fabulous fish it's name.
At 38-02, this is the biggest recorded weight for this lovely Carp which was caught by Paul Mitchell last May at 37-08. As Ryan put her back last night, we all remarked how big she was across the shoulders and no doubt as she approaches spawning next May/June she may well be breaking the 40lb barrier!
Regardless of her weight.....what a Carp to catch at any time of the year,....... let alone on in the depths of winter. Ryan becomes the 160th member of the 30+ club and is well pleased with his 35+ hoody. Extremely well done Ryan
Successful tactics was a small PVA stocking positioned in the edge of the 10 foot hole in Grebe's water.
The final total for the number of 30lb+ Carp caught from Cherry Lake in 2019 was 43 different fish including 3 x 40lb+.
'The Pretty One' is the first Carp in our 2020 catalogue of 30's.
Our target is to break the 50 x 30's for the year. We of course need our Carp to continue to stay healthy as well as the co-operation of our guests in contacting us when they have caught a big fish. We do like to witness and weigh then whenever we can.
We will continue to feed all of our lakes with a combination of boilies, pellets and spod mix, as it has clearly been the right thing to do over the last 7 years. Our Carp are normally in good condition because they have a good plentiful diet which enables them to recover from any injuries quickly as well as put on weight.
Our bookings for the year ahead are progressing well, and we definetely have more bookings than at this stage last year. If you are thinking about visiting later this year, and you are restricted in terms of dates, then I would encourage you to make contact as soon as you can.
We do however have plenty of avaialbility for the next couple of months. With Carp like 'The Pretty One' waiting to be caught from a warm welcoming Lodge, why not treat yourself to some winter Carp fishing luxury?! If you do please call 01285 869887 or e mail me at info@cherrylakes.co.uk
As well as having lots of bigger Carp we continue to stock and bring on some very attractive fish. It is important to always have quality younger Carp coming through to replace those that inevitably die. This 10-08 beautifully scaled Mirror above, which has just been caught from Cherry Springs by Dereck Jones, is typical of those coming through.
I would just like to finish this update by wishing everyone a happy, healthy and successful 2020. We hope it is a year in which at least some of your dreams and personal goals are realised. Take care.
