Ricky Philips lands 4 Carp from Cherry Mere with ice in the margins
Sunday 24 January 2016
A slow start to the year across Cherry Lakes which is fairly typical of January. The anglers who have ventured out have caught the odd Carp. Dave and I have taken advantage of the relative quiet to almost complete our major tasks of this winters ground works programme. As well as the normal tree work we have been very busy planting and fencing. We have a little more inside maintenance to undertake, but other than this we are in good shape for the year ahead.
Paul Sparks stayed with his wife Anne in Kingfisher Lodge for the period leading up to this last cold spell. He managed some 10 Carp (from memory) including 5 on one cold Thursday and as a result went home very pleased, as well as rested from their winter holiday break. His biggest was this 19lb Common below.
Ricky Philips visit last week to stay in Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere was unfortunately badly timed as it coincided with the very cold weather. Despite temperatures being as low as -6C, we managed to keep much of Cherry Mere from freezing thanks to the oxygenators, and he was very pleased we did. He managed 4 Carp in very difficult conditions (ice in most margins) including these two Carp, a 15lb Mirror and 16lb Common. Ricky and his partner Alice have already booked to return….this time in the warmth of June! Well done Ricky. Top angling!
I am pleased to report that our bookings for 2016 are running considerably ahead of last year. So if you are a regular and want to return in some of the most popular months, please do not leave it too long to book. Whilst we always welcome new guests, we particularly like to see past guests returning.
