New Cherry Lakes 30's record this weekend!
The first time all three Lodges and the Cottage have produced a 30lb+ Carp in the same weekend
Monday 9 May 2022
I mentioned in my last write up on Friday that Cherry Lake had at last come alive. Last Monday to Friday, led by Tom Hughes with 4 x 30's, 5 Carp over 30lb were caught from Cherry Lake including 'Dick' at 46-08. Cherry Lake went even better this weekend, indeed a new Cherry Lake record was set.
Both fishery manager Dave and myself, cannot remember a weekend where all three of the Lodges plus the Cottage each produced a 30lb+ Carp. This weekend as part of a 15 Carp catch, 7 Carp were over 30lb and the remainder all 20lb+. After such a slow Spring it is great for us, as well as the lucky anglers, to see the Carp at last getting caught and being in good shape.
We continue to have several vacancies over the next month or so, including
13-16 May (this coming weekend) Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool. Late booking deal available.
06-10 June. Cherry Lake Cottage.
10-13 and 20-24 June. Heron Lodge on Cherry Lake

The biggest Carp of the weekend was caught by returning guest Michael Green fishing in Heron Lodge with his lovely wife Jocelyn. At 35lb this Common was quite a bruiser, as you can see from the photos above, and set a new UK PB for Michael. He followed this up with a Mirror of 30-08 (which is another new thirty for us) and a Common of 28lb. Michael was needless to say 'over the moon' and will be returning again to 'earn' his 40+ club fleece, having now added the 35+ hoody to his clothing collection!

The Haddingham brothers, Richard and James visited Cherry lakes for the first time this weekend and stayed in Cherry Lake Cottage. They had a great weekend landing 6 Carp between them including a shared brace of 30lb+ Commons. Richard led the way with 4 Carp including a Common of 33lb and a lovely Ghost Mirror of 28lb below. Richard's Common is a new addition to the 2022 30's catalogue
The Ghost Mirror looks like it will join the ranks of the 30's in the lake over the next year and when it does it should mean we have over 10 different Ghost Carp over this weight
James Haddingham landed the second big Common, an extremely good looking Common. This Carp was caught earlier in the year in January by Dave Cole at the slightly lower weight of 30-04. The successful tactic for the brothers being bright coloured pop-ups over a bed of feed which I think included broken boilies and pellets.
Des Proud and John Smith shared 6 carp in Osprey Lodge including this distinctive Mirror of 34-10, again I think pop-ups accounted for most of these. This carp is another new addition to this years catalogue. It appeared last year about 1lb lighter last April when caught by Charlie England. Steve Lane in Grebe Lodge made it a clean sweep of thirties when he caught a 31lb Mirror in the early hours of Sunday night (sorry no photo).
The smaller lakes all produced very well this weekend, including a thirty to Pochard Lodge, and once some photos and catch reports come in, I hope to include in my next update.
Well done to all the anglers mentioned above. A good weekend indeed!
