Mark Camp. 41-02 R

Mark Camp's first Carp from Cherry Lake is a 41-02 cracker

We also have had fantastic Crucian Carp and Tench caught.
Wednesday 2 April 2025

Mark Camp along with his good friend Noel Luck have been visiting Cherry Lake for the first time this week, staying in Osprey Lodge.

Both of these anglers had a chance yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), respectively their first runs, but unfortunately only one was landed. Now you would have thought that with his name it would have been Noel who landed the first Carp, but no it was Mark. Mark being the lucky one!

Mark's first run produced his first Carp from Cherry Lake, and what a fish this one is. 'Pac-man' is one of my favourites. So called because of the Pac-man markings on both sides of its wrist, as you can see from both of the photos here.

This male carp has been steadily growing in Cherry Lake. It was caught last March at 38-08. This time he weighed in at 41-02. Our second 40+ in the last 2 two weeks. As this is the first time this near Leather Carp has been over 40lb+, it is also a new forty for us. Well done Mark.

Shane Smith. 4-01
Shane Smith was delighted with this 4-01 Crucian carp from Cherry Springs

Regular and fishery friend Shane Smith visited Kingfisher Lodge last weekend and I am pleased to report that he had a good trip. From memory he landed 12 Carp to 26-08 from Cherry Springs.

It was not however the bigger Carp that caught my eye, but rather the smallest one! As you can see above, this lovely Crucian Carp picked up his whittled down boilie. At 4lb 1oz this is a real specimen as well as being relatively rare these days. We know we have Crucians to at least 4-08 (from our winter netting of Cherry Springs). Given the high quality of our feed, who knows Cherry Springs might produce a 5lb+ whopper in the feature.

If anyone wanted to target these lovely little Carp, then I think Shane with small boilies has shown the way.

This stunning Ghost Common of 20-04 also made Shane smile!

Shane also caught my eye with this stunning Ghost Common pictured above. This is one of our home grown 'babies'. It was good to see this distinctive Carp has broken through the 20lb barrier. Well done Shane top angling.

Gary Owen. 6-04 Tench Cherry Pool

It was good to welcome back this week the Owen family who have been long-term Cherry Lakes regulars. Fortunately Cherry Lakes lies roughly equidistant from Mum Pauline and Dad Rob and son Gary. What a great excuse to combine a visit to Cherry Lakes with a family get together!

For this trip they decided to stay in Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool. By Wednesday they had landed a hatful of Carp including 20's to both Rob and Gary. The 24lb Common pictured below being the biggest so far.

Gary also picked up a very nice Tench as you can see from the picture above. At 6lb 4oz this is also a specimen that is doing well in what is a well stocked Carp lake.

Cherry Pool has a healthy population of Tench to 8lb+ as well as some cracking Crucians. I always think that any angler fishing on Cherry Pool for Carp, should also get their float rods out, as there are some real crackers lurking in the depths of Cherry Pool.
