Marble Mirror is doing well
Our very special Ghost Carp is growing nicely
Sunday 24 March 2019
First time visitor to Cherry Lake, George Kosmetos stayed in Opsrey Lodge this weekend and last night (Saturday) he had his first Carp from the lake. As you can see from the photo above he landed a very 'leathery' Mirror Carp of 29-06. A very nice first Cherry Lake Carp. He fished towards the middle of the lake fishing with a mix of pellets and broken boilies. Well done George.
Regular guest Marc Campion caught my favourite 'new' Carp of the year last April when he landed the 'Marble' Mirror from Cherry Mere at 4-11 in April 2018. This Mirror is a Ghost carp. Unlike most normal Ghosties which tend to have a bit of gold/yellow in them, this fish looked like a carving made out of marble. Hence my nickname of the 'Marble Mirror'. As you can see from Marc's photo below this Carp is stunning and very unusual. I particularly love this Carp because she is 'home grown'.
I was speaking with Brian Hamilton earlier today when he mentioned he recently caught a small lovely Ghost Carp. After he described it I asked him if he had any photos. Fortunately he did and sent them to me. As you can see the 'Marble Mirror' has done well over the last year. At 8lb she has put on over 3lb in the last year, which I think is fairly good given the high stocking density in Cherry Mere. She has also grown nicely in length and it is not hard to imagine her as a 20lb+ Carp. When she reaches this weight she will be very special indeed. I hope she now disappears again for another year and I look forward to seeing her next year as a double figure fish. If you catch her please look after her and let me know!
