Leighton Cockcroft land 7 Carp with an average of over 30lb!
Amazing catch includes 3x 30's to 37-02
Saturday 13 July 2019
I will admit to having a fair amount of time away from Cherry Lakes over the last month. Whenever I do, it seems like there are some great Carp caught. It's getting to the point where some of our regular guests are only booking when I am away!
This week Leighton Cockcroft has been the real star and has had an amazing result on his first visit to Cherry Lake. Leighton stayed in Grebe Lodge and had the good fortune to land 7 Carp. He caught the following Carp ...... 26lb, 27lb, 28-04, 28-08, 34-02 Common, 35-02 Common and a 37-03 Mirror. An amazing average weight of over 30lb!
Leighton joins an exclusive group of anglers who have caught 3 x 30lb+ carp in one visit and at the first time of asking. He fished sweet flavoured boilies on the bottom over the Cherry Lakes Spod Mix. Leighton's biggest Carp was a Mirror of 37-02, pictured iimediately above, which is our 25th different 30+ of the year. Leighton also becomes the 132nd member of the Cherry Lake 30+ club.
Leighton also landed two big Common's of 35-04 and 34-02. The bigger Common, pictured above and in the lead photo, is a Carp known as 'The Scruff' which was last caught by James Hine in May 2018. It was the 26th different Cherry Lake 30+ of the year. It is both remarkable how Carp can go so long without being caught (or should I say landed). It is even more remarkable that one angler can catch two Carp which are obviously rarely caught in one session!
The third Carp of Leighton's trio, was the 34-02 Common pictured below. Unfortunately Leighton was unable to reach fishery manager Dave to come and photo this fish, and hence I have been unable to be clear which Carp it is and when it was last caught. A real shame from my perspective given it appears to be two toned on it's left flank.
For all future guests please make sure you make every effort to contact us when you land a 30+. We will certainly help you to get a good photo as well as help my catalogue of the bigger Carp!
Well done Leighton on a fabulous first visit and amazing average. We look forwards to seeing you again.
As well as missing out on the action, my reporting and record keeping can get a 'little sloppy'. Apologies to Roger Sparks, who caught a 32lb Mirror and May which I completely over-looked! You can now see it pictured below. He also did not get his 30+ club shirt! I will make this up to him next time. He is now officially the 131st member of the Cherry Lake club.
