Ken O’Connor lands his 6th Cherry Lake 30lb+
A wonderful 31-00 winter Common!
Saturday 8 December 2018
As I mentioned in my last update we have had very few guests over the last few weeks. A real shame as the Carp have been seen moving on Cherry Lake as well as the smaller lakes. It has been a good time though to get on with the ‘heavy lifting jobs, principally tree work, bank restoration and swim building. I would say we are over half way through this work which is good news and on track to finish all of this by the end of January. This also includes a brand new main bathroom in the Cottage.
At last some current catches to talk about, with two good fish having been caught over the last 24 hours.
Ken O’Connor and his wife Rosemary have been coming regularly as guests over the last 5 years or so. Up to this trip, he has previously caught 5 different 30lb+ Carp. He has caught as many as 20 Carp in one visit as well as suffering his share of blanks! Earlier this afternoon, Ken landed another 30lb Carp, his sixth from Cherry Lake, this time with a stunning winter Common of 31lb. He used small baits and took advantage of an empty Cottage swim by fishing towards the house from Heron Lodge. Top angling! I have included below pictures of both this Common and Ken’s 32lb Mirror from the summer.
This Carp obviously likes feeding in the winter. As far as I can tell, this Common has not been caught since early January when she was caught by Bill Osbourne at 30-08. Perhaps it is shy and only feeds when the other Carp are less active?
Steve Bell has been on his first visit to Cherry Lakes for three years this weekend and decided to stay in Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere. He was quickly off the mark with two Carp in the early hours including this 26lb Mirror.
Well done to both Steve and Ken. As they say ‘you have to be in it….to win it’ and ‘you can’t catch anything with your rods hung-up’.
