Jim Killeen leads the way on Cherry Lake
Monday 23 May 2016
I am sorry but as I was away all week last week so I missed out on all the angling news. We did however have a good weekend across the Cherry Lakes complex.
First time visitor Jim Killeen led the way in Heron Lodge. On arrival 70 year old Jim said that ‘this is just what I have been looking for’. When I next saw him he was already trying to book again! His 28-04 Common being the biggest Carp of the weekend which also saw the anglers in Osprey and Grebe Lodges also catch Carp over 20lb+. See you soon Jim!
Jon Barber who was fishing in the Cottage swim with fishing buddy Richard Eady, was the most prolific angler of the weekend on Cherry Lake. Amongst his four Carp catch was a Ghost carp of 25lb (unfortunately no photo as this was landed at 01.30 and buddy Richard was in the Cottage) and this lovely Ghost Common of just over 20lb.
Plenty of twenties but no thirties this week. With spawning looking like it is still several weeks away at least, the ‘big girls’ will be at their heaviest. We have our fingers crossed that one or two of the real biggies will visit the banks. We suspect that the current record Common if caught now will be well over 40lb. Time will tell!
Joe and Stephanie Scales fishing in Pochard Lodge had a cracking weekend landing some 14 Carp all doubles+ including a 24lb Mirror to Stephanie. Pochard Lodge has been empty for the last two weeks. the Carp have clearly enjoyed the rest and the extra feeding by us, with Joe and Stephanie reaping the benefits.
Crucian Carp to 3-03, bream to 6-08 and Tench to 3-08 have also been landed alongside the Carp from Cherry Pool recently.
