James Hine lands 'Ruby' at 41-08
Monday 7 September 2020
A much slower week on Cherry Lake and Springs after the great fishing of the last few weeks. This might be the consequence of a very cold bank holiday weekend (we even had to put the house heating on!), or simply the fish fancied some time off!
Just two Carp were caught by the anglers on Cherry Lake with a couple lost, which is clearly tough going and disappointing for the time of the year. I always know things are slow when I start using the line 'its called fishing and not catching'!
James Hine and his good friend Elliot Lee are regular guests and good anglers and stayed in Grebe Lodge. A 24lb Common got them off the mark on Tuesday but that was it until Friday morning, when I got the call. The great thing about these two guys is that they kept smiling all week and appreciated that the Carp were not really having it. Well on Friday morning James caught his new PB. He was absolutely 'buzzing and delighted' to catch 'Ruby' at 41-08. All of a sudden a disappointing visit was transformed into a great one! James is now the proud owner of a 40+ fleece to go with his 30+ club polo shirt. he just needs a 35+ hoody to complete the set!
Well done Jim. Well deserved and see you next year.
'
Ruby' has been our 'friendliest' 40lb+ Carp this year and has posed for photos four times this year She looks in rude health, but I will confess to thinking that I would like not to see her until next Spring in great condition, heavier and rested. Time will tell.
Andrew Perkins, along with his sons Ben and Luke, is also a regular visitor to Cherry Lakes. Normally they stay in Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere. This trip they decided to try their luck on Cherry Lake. Andy went into Grebe with his good friend Mark Chandler whilst Ben and Luke went into Osprey Lodge.
Up until this morning (Sunday) everybody had caught one Carp including Mark who was delighted to have landed a new PB, a Fully Scaled Mirror of 27-08 (pictured below), except Andy! This however changed overnight, firstly with a 23lb Mirror at 02.00 followed early this morning by this beautiful Common of 30-08 pictured above.
This Common was last out in July, is a new PB for Andy. It was also his 'entry pass' into the Cherry Lakes 30+ club as our 182nd member
Andy has already re-booked for next September. Rather than taking two Lodges, next year he has booked all three Cherry Lake Lodges as he has some more friends who want to visit Cherry Lakes! See you all next year.
Andrew Scott and his good friend Phil are another pair of regulars who returned last week. This time they chose to fish from Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere. Fishing over beds of hempseed and pellets, they shared 23 Carp between them including 6 twenties and went home happy. Andy had a very nice Ghost Common of 22lb and this lovely Mirror of 23lb both pictured below. Very nice indeed and well done Andy and Phil.
