George hits birthday gold with a 27lb Common
Sunday 31 January 2016
George Charlton celebrated his 21st birthday in style with a weekend with his family in Cherry Lake Cottage. As well as enjoying the hot tub and some birthday celebrations, he also found some time for some fishing and was glad he did. As you can see from the picture below he caught a ‘bar of January gold’ in the shape of a 27lb Common. A new PB for George.
Alan Harbottle has been the other angler on Cherry Lake this weekend and to date he has done well to land three Carp, including a Mirror of 26lb. With a mild night in prospect we are hopeful for some more tonight. Two of his Carp including the bigger Mirror have been caught around 3AM, which seems to be a regular feeding time at the moment.
For the first time this year, all of the other lakes have been fished this weekend, with our guests all reporting multiple catches.
Nick Smith in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs continues to catch steadily and has now had 12 Carp to date. Boilies over pellets have been the method for him. Just in case you missed it, I have re-run the photo of his cracking 24lb Mirror from earlier this week.
Kevin and Michael Sheriff fishing from Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere have landed 6 doubles up to 15lb, but with reports of several good fish lost.
Carl Alboni and Gary Melia fishing from Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool, have landed 20 fish to date (with one night to go) of which 16 were Carp. Unusually only two of these Carp have been doubles. They have used pellets for both feed and hook baits. Whilst these tactics have ensured a lot of action, the method has not been very selective. They were very pleased with the 7lb Bream which came early on to pellet.
