Gavin Braddon lands 21 from Pochard Lodge to 21!
Thursday 16 July 2015
Gavin Braddon with his wife and Mum and Dad are regular welcome visitors to Cherry Lakes and this year they decided to try the new Pochard Lodge on Cherry Lake. Gavin says they loved the new Lodge and had a great holiday.
Gavin sent me through a lovely note including his catch report, so I thought I would share his words with you:-
”I had 21 in total. The smallest being 10lb on the nose and the biggest, and my PB, a 21lb 4oz Mirror.
All these except one were caught off the bottom, the other on a zig. I caught countless small carp on the zig so I stopped using it in the end.
The Lodge was stunning and was just what I expected to be honest, so can’t fault the effort you’ve put in there. Dave was helpful as usual, pointing out some spots before I started and always nice to see Judith and yourself.
As for the fishing, it was pretty slow at times especially with the sun out and watching the fish cruising around. Most bites were after 6pm and I had a few early morning with a few mid afternoon.
All of the fish were in cracking condition and put up a hell of a scrap right to the net.”
As I have mentioned before, and It is clear from the above, that the Carp have bred successfully in Cherry Mere over the last two summers since Cherry Mere was formed. I have been trying to remove as many of these as we can.
The new stock pond which has been dug should be finished over the next couple of weeks, and we will put around 100 of the best of these into the pond and release them back into the lakes when they are much bigger!
In the meantime if you are staying in Pochard Lodge bring your match rod as they are a lot of fun.
Well done Gavin on your PB. We look forward to seeing you and your lovely family back here at Cherry Lakes again next year.
