Gary Owen catches ‘The Pretty One’ at 35-13

I have been away for the last week and typically have missed some good fishing despite (or maybe because of) the heat.

Brian Round stayed in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs last weekend. He caught 22 Carp including several over 20lb to 26-08. Sorry but I don’t have any photos to share. Well done Brian.

All of the anglers last week caught on Cherry Lake. Top rod by some distance was Gary Owen fishing from Grebe Lodge. Gary, who is one of our regulars, and has caught a good number of Carp from Cherry Lake but has until this trip a Cherry Lake 30+ had avoided him.

As you can see from the photos below Gary has well and truly ‘broken his duck’. He is now the proud owner of both a Cherry Lake  30+ polo shirt as well as a 35+ club sweatshirt. A rare brace indeed!

Cunningly Gary first caught a 30-04 Ghost Carp at 00.30 on Tuesday morning. In doing so Gary became the 97th different member of the Cherry Lake 30+ club and received his 30+ polo shirt. This Ghost Carp was also 16th different Carp over 30lb caught from Cherry Lake this year.

Having landed several more Carp over twenty pounds on his snowman presentation which was positioned on the shallows, Gary then went one better on Thursday when he landed this stunning 35-13 Mirror known as ‘The Pretty One’ for obvious reasons. In doing so Gary also broke his previous PB by nearly three pounds.  I cannot think of a better looking Carp to be anyone’s PB….fantastic! Gary also qualified for a 35+ club Sweatshirt which he is proudly displaying below. Well done Gary, you thoroughly deserve such a great result.

‘The Pretty One’ was last out in May to Marc Lloyd when she weighed 33lb. It is good to see her doing so well and look forward to the day when she breaks the 40lb barrier. She certainly has the frame to do so.
