Ellis Harper lands a 31-07 Cherry Lake Common
Mark Bullock ‘settles’ for 50 from Cherry Springs
Tuesday 11 February 2025
A brief update this time as I am currently away undertaking some real hardcore winter fishing of my own. 4 days in. I am cold and damp, and surrounded by mud, not to mention that I am blanking. If I didn’t own Cherry Lakes I would be fishing there from a warm Lodge and clean banks!
Ellis Harper visited Cherry Lake for the first time last weekend. Despite the tough conditions and a lake which looked fairly dead, he came away with a real cracker as you can see from the photos above and below. Now that’s why winter Carp fishing is worthwhile.

My last update focussed on Mark Bullock’s amazing winter week’s stay in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs. During his first 4 days, before I left Cherry Lakes, Mark had landed an unbelievable 30 Carp including some 8 over 20lb to 29-04.
Well it just got better and better for Mark, with Friday and Saturday being quite frenetic with one double take and one triple take. His tactics of small highly attractive pop ups over pellet, crushed boilies and hempseed were so irresistible to the Carp.

The fishing slowed down for Mark and Donna, so once he hit the unbelievable number 50, he called it a day. He was very happy and went home a night early for a rest! What a fantastic haul, at any time of the year, let alone in the depths of winter. Very impressive Mark and well done.
