Dean Goode lands the 3rd x 30lb+ Carp of January so far

Our good friends the Goode's took advantage of an empty Cherry Lake to spend a couple of days last minute in Cherry Lake Cottage, and Dean is so glad that he made the effort to visit Cherry Lake and get his bivvy out!

I mentioned in my last update that I was disappointed that the Lodges were quiet this weekend and coming week, because the conditions are great for winter Carp fishing are great, and the Cherry Lake Carp are most definetely active.So I was so glad when Dean contacted me to spend a couple of days in the Cottage.

Dean managed to catch a couple of Carp. The first one came on Saturday, a lovely Mirror of 18-10. Another one of our youger Carp coming through and looked great close up. As you can see from the photo below, Dean enjoyed a helpful mild southerly wind which blew up the lake into the 'house' bank.

I popped out to see Dean on Sunday morning and was told of a quiet night. He was however very positive as he had seen a number of Carp showing including a 'big lump' down the near side right bank. Needless to say he had positioned a bait close to where this Carp had showed.

I was busy positioning some 40 pots of shrubs (we want to add a bit more colour to Cherry Lakes.......although as always 40 plants just disappear....so we will have to continue to do this again over the next few winters!), when I got the call from Dean saying he thought he had a thirty in the net.

Well he certainly did have. This cracking Mirror, photographed in the lead picture above and below, took the scales around to 32-04. A new PB for Dean. Even more impressive because he caught it in winter. In doing so Dean becomes the 161st member of the Cherry Lakes 30+ club. This fish was last caught in October by Thomas Etchell at the same weight. Well done Dean, top angling.

It is not just Cherry Lake which is producing, Cherry Mere is rewarding all the guests which are staying in Pochard Lodge. Dan Coleman caught a 23-08 Common last week which I believe was a PB for him. He sent me a lovely note some of which I have repeated here

Dan was followed into Pochard Lodge this weekend by Callum and Robert Bedding. To date they have shared 7 Carp between them to 19-10 and are very happy. Well done to both Dan and the Bedding's.
