Cherry Pool 2024 Annual Report
A year of real progress for Cherry Pool with some absolute beauties caught.
Sunday 15 December 2024
I will admit that it is because of the progress of Cherry Pool and some fantastic Carp being caught that I decided to produce annual reports for each of the exclusive lakes.
We took the decision in 2022 to improve the quality of the Carp fishing in Cherry Pool. At this time Cherry Pool was full of Bronze Bream as well as old stunted Carp. Fishing was normally hectic. If the Carp were feeding then lots of singles and low doubles could be easily caught. When the Carp stopped feeding the Bream would keep the buzzers sounding. The lake, which is our deepest at up to 16 feet, was able to support a significant biomass.
The older stunted Carp and the vast majority of the Bream have been removed. We have restocked with over 100 younger home grown Carp including 30 over 20lb up to low 30’s.As you can see here some of these are now coming through. They look in great condition and are growing as you can see here.
Top angler Stephen Mitchell was the first angler to catch a 35lb+ Carp from Cherry Pool when he landed the 36lb Mirror pictured above. This means they all of our smaller exclusive lakes all hold Carp to over 35lb. Whilst my money is on Cherry Springs producing the first exclusive lake 40lb+, you never know….
I am hard to pin down my favourite Carp photo of the year. Certainly we have three photos here which would make my short list. The lead photo is of Parker who visited Cherry Pool with his Nan in the summer. He came all the way from Canada!
I think he must have the Midas touch. Not only did he have this beautiful 29lb Carp in the lead photo, he is also featured here with another stunner of 25lb.
Nick Christie’s 30lb fully scaled Mirror also takes some beating. I am not sure whatever I say can really describe the beauty of these three Carp. I know that these are all Carp I would love to catch.
Cherry Pool still contains a lot of other species each with their own specimen. The wide fishing platform and deep water very close in makes this lake probably the most productive for other species, especially when float fishing.
Cherry Pool contains Perch and Roach to 2lb+. These bigger fish are best targeted in the cooler months when their smaller brethren are less active. Similar to Cherry Lake and Cherry Pool, in the warmer months we ask guest to retain the small Roach as well as any skimmer Bream, so we can remove them. This helps us manage the bio-mass and water quality.
We have specimen Tench to 8lb+ and Crucian Carp to 4lb Within Cherry Pool. The photos here of a 6lb + Tench and a cracking Crucian Carp should Make
