Cherry Lakes is open for the new year period
Bait restrictions relaxed
Tuesday 13 October 2026
The fishing since my last update has been good until the last week when some rain (at last ) and a cold front has knocked the temperatures down and the fish with it! With the warmth returning, they should be back on the munch in no time at all.
I will start with a couple of updates. As many of you know we have been applying some restrictions to the bait being used as we have tried to protect the lakes water quality during this period of drought. Whilst we still badly need a lot more rain, with the fall in temperatures, we feel sufficiently confident to lift the temporary restrictions and offer our normal bait and feed range. Thank you for all the guests who have worked with us through this period.
The lead photo above is of 16 year old Finley read who smashed his PB this weekend when staying in Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere with his Dad Paul and Brother Harvey (13, who also caught a new PB of 17-08). Finley's lovely Mirror came in at 25lb. They say they 'will be back'!
For the last few years we have not opened Cherry Lakes for the week just after Christmas and over the New Year period. Having had several requests, we have decided to open for the week of 28 December to 03 January. Our pricing tables have been updated, so if you fancy a post Christmas break either use the on-line booking process or give us a call on 01285 869887.
Cherry Springs has been fishing very well. It's Carp love a good 'dose' of our Cherry red boilies. The two Ken's, father and son are both called Ken Chow, have just finished their 6 visit and it was their best ever. Dad Ken, smashed his PB twice, first with a 27lb Common and then with the 30lb+ Mirror pictured above.
As always I am behind Simon's regular updates on our Facebook pages, but I could not resist picking out two of Gary Owen's captures from Cherry Lake, during his last visit. The 36-04 fully scaled Mirror is something special, as is the lovely shaped 34lb+ Common immediately above. This particular Common is clearly going 'somewhere. Despite the general struggles with Carp weights through the summer, this beauty has put on over 5lb in a year. I have every confidence that it will be a new 40 for us in the not too distant future.
