Cherry Lake swings into gear as the Mere produces it’s first 20+
Friday 13 March 2015
Cherry Lake’s Carp have been getting into gear this week with 8 Carp being shared between anglers in Heron and Grebe Lodges.
In Grebe Lodge Darrell Smith and Andrew Smith, have landed 4 Carp to 23-04 including 3 over 20lb and lost several. They have also been able to ‘sweet talk’ fishery manager Dave Bowen into letting them spend a few hours during the day on Cherry Mere and Cherry Pool (which have been closed for the winter).
They landed three Carp in an afternoon from the Mere, the first Carp being this 21lb Common below. The first 20lb+ Carp to be caught by a guest from this new lake. As you can see from the photo below we have covered the large decking on Pochard Lodge with the artificial grass which Darren and Andrew said was a real pleasure to fish on…..albeit a bit surreal having grass ‘floating over the water!’ Pochard Lodge and Cherry Mere open for guests from next Friday 20th March.
Matt McCombe fishing in Heron has been reporting a fair amount of activity during the week, but few good runs. Thursday afternoon changed all that when he landed three Carp in an afternoon including this good looking Mirror of just over 20lbs.
We have been a little disappointed that we have only seen one thirty on the bank this winter. A combination of limited angling pressure and some cold conditions. We are expecting to see a number of the ‘bigger girls’ on the bank over the next four weeks and possibly a new Cherry Lake record. Watch this space!
