Cherry Lake produces 4 x 30lb+ Carp
Two of these are new thirties bringing the total to 38 different 30lb+ Carp in 2019
Wednesday 18 September 2019
As hinted at in my last update there were some good catches reported whilst Judith and I were away. I am going to split the update for the last several weeks into two. This one will be concentrated on Cherry Lake and the next one on the exclusive lakes.
Fishery manager Dave tells me that the fishing has largely been steady for the time of the year, with most anglers reporting one to three Carp during their visit. There has been some cracking ones caught. I will limit my commentary to cover the 30's that have been caught.
The biggest catch was shared between Clive Evans and Carl Booth when they stayed in Grebe Lodge early in the month. This was their first visit to Cherry Lakes and they had an excellent result. I will let Clive's email to me do the talking.
''Hi Mike
We caught 10 fish overall, ghosties, mirrors and commons, ranging from 12lb to 31lb.
Ghost Mirror - 26lb
Ghost Common - 16lb
Mirrors - 15-00, 30-08, 31-00, 12-00, 29-12,
Commons - 21-00, 27-00
Thanks for a great week's fishing and will definitely see you next year''
In catching the 30-08 Mirror, Carl became the 140th member of the Cherry Lake 30+ club and was quickly by Clive as the 141st with a 31lb Mirror. Carl's dumpy looking Mirror is a new 30+ for us and is the 37th different Carp over 30lb+ caught from Cherry Lake this year. Clive's 31lb Mirror was caught in May by Roger Sparks (who coincidentally is featured later in this update).
Aaron Williams was also on his first visit to Cherry Lake when he stayed for the weekend in Osprey Lodge. He was delighted to also join the 'club' when he landed a 31-04 Mirror pictured both in the lead photo above and immediately below. I have no details on the tactics used to report. What I can say is that this Carp is another new 30 for us and is the 38th different Carp over this target weight in 2019. Our on-going feeding programme continues to work with most of the Carp being caught either being up in weight or at least recovered to their pre-spawning highs.
Roger Sparks stayed in Heron Lodge with his wife Sue, hoping to beat his previous PB of 32-04 which he caught when he first visited Cherry Lake in May. I am delighted to say that last weekend he achieved his goal when he landed a 33-08 Mirror Carp. As you can see they were both very happy. This particular Carp is an example of one which has not yet matched her pre-spawning high of 36lb. You will have to try to catch her next year Roger! Well done on having back to back 30's.
