The Cherry Lake Carp are on the feed!
Over 20 Cherry Lake Carp landed in a week
Sunday 5 May 2019
As I am currently a 'free-man' and not having an active work contract, I have spent the last week in France with my good fishing buddy Chris Hughes. I appreciate some might think this is a bit like a 'bus-mans' holiday.....but I think a change is as a good as a rest (at least that was my line to Judith).
In short the fishing was hard work. The weather was against us.....it was surprisingly cold. I managed a couple of Grass Carp (biggest 43-08) and just one Mirror of 19-08 in the first two days which was followed by a 5 day blank. As a fishery owner I often see how the lake can switch off for days at a time........well it was my turn to suffer. Fishing not catching!
As always all of the smaller lakes have been consistently producing. Regular Alan Waddington landed 9 Carp during his stay in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs including four twenties to 25-08.
As a result I missed producing my more regular updates and missed out on a few catch reports. I have included several of the photos received within this update. I always appreciate guests sending through photos of their catches....and particularly when I am away. Thank you.
The good news is that the Cherry Lake Carp have at last woken up. Over the last week or so some 20+ Carp have been caught and not one thirty amongst them. The Carp have switched onto our fish meal boilies big time, with the Fish Supreme taking more than 50% of them.
Keith Perry has been staying in Heron Lodge this weekend. So far on his first visit he has landed two crackers including the 28-08 Common at the top of this update as well as this 29lb Mirror above. The Common is probably a 'Ghostie'.
Neil Ash, another Cherry Lake regular stayed last weekend in Grebe Lodge. After switching to the Cherry Lake Fish Supreme boilies on Saturday he landed three Carp including this 27-02 Mirror below. My understanding is that this fish came from hard against the reeds on the shallows.
Anthony King followed Neil Ash into Grebe Lodge for his first visit to Cherry Lakes. He sensibly listened to fishery manager Dave and fished the Fish Supreme boilies from the off. He was very pleased with his 6 Carp catch which included this 25-02 Mirror.
The Bristow family have come en- masse this weekend staying in Pochard and Grebe Lodges. Dad Steve and Billy fishing on Cherry Springs have caught Carp to 21lb ( a PB for Steve) including a number on a float rod fished close to the near side reeds. Jack Bristow has been fishing on Cherry Lake. He has landed 4 Carp so far this weekend including this 28lb Mirror below.
As you can see none of our bigger 30lb+ Carp have been caught for a while. We are seeing them......in fact Dave called me whilst I was away last week to say he could see 'Dick' the record holding Mirror (which was 44lb when caught by Paul Mitchell last October) saying she looked Massive! Let's see what happens during May. We are due some thirties and I have plenty of 30+ club polo shirts ready!
We currently have a few vacancies over the next few weeks including these listed below. If you fancy a late break give us a call on 01285 869887
