Brian Round lands a brace of 37's from Cherry lake.
He smashes his PB twice with his fast start!
Thursday 15 April 2021
It is great to be operating normally again and to have a full house. It is also very clear that we are going to be very busy this year as we are almost fully booked until November. My phone and e mail is very hot ( well as far as it can be for a 59 year old!). So many people want to visit as the staycation necessity is with us for another year. There are also lots of frustrated anglers who have had their visits to France cancelled and are looking for UK alternatives. I am just sorry I don't have a Cherry Lakes 2 where I could help!
To help my regular followers I have listed below the dates currently remaining to the end of October
Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere. 22-25 October
Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Springs. 11-15 and 25-29 October
Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool. 22-25 October.
We have used the closedown time to do as much work around Cherry Lakes as we can. I have to say the place is looking good for the time of the year and just right to welcome guests to. I hope you like the photo of the Cherry Trees which are located near the main gate, which hopefully gives you a feel of Spring (albeit a cold one) at Cherry Lakes.
Regular Brian Round has been enjoying himself in Osprey Lodge and has led the way with his fast start this week landed an amazing 3 thirties including two 37's in a couple of days! He has done particularly well because Cherry Lake is unusually gin clear. I suspect this is because the Carp have no been as active as usual. Whilst it might make the fishing harder it is much easier to Carp and Swan Mussel spot!
His first Carp, weighed in at 37-14, pictured in the lead photo above. A new PB for Brian who was delighted to join the Cherry Lakes 30+ club as our first new member of 2021. I had to look back to previous 'Latest News' posts to see that he is the 194th member.
Interestingly this Carp did not feature in my 2020 thirties catalogue. It did in 2019 when it was caught in July 2019 by Jack Gardiner at 32-08. A gain of 5lb+ over the period is a pleasing healthy weight gain. From our perspective it is always good to see the Carp which 'disappear' for extended periods of time.
Brian, smashed his old PB for a second time when he landed this lovely 37-04 Mirror above. This is another of our long carp, which look very capable of carrying significant amounts of more weight. Slightly disappointing it's weight is similar to the 37-12 when caught by Charlie England in October 20. It has been a long winter and it might be a male Carp (not sure about this?)! Brian's trio of thirties was completed when he landed this 32lb Mirror just a few hours after the last Carp above. This Carp was also caught at a similar weight by Paul Sparks last August.
Stuart Crafer in Grebe Lodge was having a frustrating session until yesterday afternoon. The Carp have been very evident in the shallows sunning themselves without showing any real intention of feeding We were all very pleased when this lovely 23lb Common picked up his little pop-up. I have included the photo below as it is very artistic.
The other lakes are producing steadily. The cold water and over-night frosts are also holding the Carp back here. Regular James Morris and his friend Bob Walker have had several twenties including this impressive Mirror of 26lb below, which was caught by Bob and held by James.
Well done to all of the above. It is good to be back 'reporting' again!
