At last! Aaron Heydon-Jones lands Cherry Lake’s 10th different 30lb+ of 2105

At last, and after a long wait, Cherry Lake has at last produced it’s 10th different 30 of 2015.
Aaron Heydon-Jones is the latest member of the Cherry Lakes 30+ club. Aaron has been holidaying in Grebe Lodge with his partner Sarah Knowland and their delightful baby Elsie. Whilst I am delighted to see this Carp safely in Aaron’s landing net, the highlight of my week was holding Elsie! A real little sweetheart!
Aaron has worked hard during his week’s holiday and has well deserved the two Carp he has landed to date. As well as the 31lb Common, he also landed a stunning 20-04 Mirror (see pictures below). Importantly he has converted his two runs into ‘fish on the bank’. This is even more important than normal given Cherry Lake continues to be unusually slow for the time of the year. The Carp are doing everything they should be at this time of year (rolling, leaping, feeding in the silt etc) except eating lots of boilies. They may be pre-occupied with naturals or simply sick of boilies!
I still think it will take a good storm to break all of our lakes and the Carp out of their torper. I look forward to reporting a steady stream of big Cherry Lake Carp in October and November, including I hope several of the 30′s which have not been caught (with good photos) so far this year.
As I have been saying for a few weeks, I think small baits are the key at the moment. The big Common coming from an ‘unfashionable’ part of the Grebe Lodge swim on a 10mm boilie. I am hopeful Aaron might slip out at east one more before he goes.
John W staying with his lovely wife Maureen, who makes a wicked Irish Coffee, in Pochard Lodge on Cherry Mere has landed several nice Carp including this impressive 17lb Fully Scaled Mirror below. I am not sure though that the photo shows off this stunning fish in all her glory!
