Amazing results on Cherry Lake
Wayne Poole lands a new 40lb+Mirror
Wednesday 29 September 2021
An amazing couple of weeks on Cherry Lake since my last update, of course coincided with my second, and final, French carping trip of the year. I absolutely do not know where to start. Please forgive me if I have missed anyone out, but I think since my last update on 13 September we have had 17 Carp over 30lb caught including four over 35lb and a new forty! In truth a bit over whelming.
Wayne Poole stayed with his family in Cherry Lake Cottage over the last week on what was his first visit to Cherry Lakes. I don't think it will be his last!
Wayne fished principally between about 19-00 through to about 09.00. He baited regularly and kept his lines out of the water for most of the daylight hours. A tactic which we have seen work very well on a number of occasions as the Carp quickly drift into the less pressurised areas of the lake.
Wayne said he had his best ever fishing session in England.. Over the course of the week, fishing with our Bio-Spice boilies, he landed a total of 11 Carp, all 20lb plus, including 30's of 30-04, 31lb and 32-08. His week was topped off by a 40-04 Mirror (weighed by fishery manager Dave). This well proportioned Mirror Carp is a new forty for us and is the 5th Carp above this magic weight in Cherry lake. This particular Carp was last caught by Brian Round in April at 37-14. Good steady weight gain for a female Carp. As you can see from the photos below and above (where Wayne is pictured alongside his wife Amanda ), this Carp has plenty of scope for further growth and weight gain.
Long term regular James Hine, who previously has landed Carp up to 36lb, had a great weekend in Osprey Lodge with his good friend James Carter. They landed an impressive 12 Carp between them, fishing wafters over pellets, all of the fish were over 20lb, including 4 thirties. James Carter's biggest was a 32-08 Common. James Hine went one better beating his previous Cherry Lake best for a Common, when he landed this 'chunk' below at 37-02. In doing so, James joined the exclusive club of anglers who have caught a 30, 35+ and a 40+ from Cherry Lake. From memory the 5th angler to do so. Well done James.
The Clark family had a four day break on Cherry Springs where they 'filled their boots' with Carp to 29-08 before moving to Grebe Lodge for the weekend and for the rest of their weeks holiday. Dad John caught a stunning 30-04 Mirror and went on to catch a further two 20lb+ Commons. Jake was feeling a little deflated until his turn came on Sunday when he caught a new PB, a Common of 38-08. Bio-Spice boilies again doing the trick. John's Carp is a new thirty for Cherry Lake. Another one of a class of 30+ stunning heavily scaled Mirrors coming through.
I appreciate this is getting repetitive, but...........Jamie Jenkinson also had a great trip when he stayed in Heron Lodge for a week. He landed 7 Carp including his new PB of 34lb. Paul Hartburn also caught a 36lb Mirror on his first visit, whilst Liam Knight caught two over 30lb from his mid-week stay in Osprey Lodge, Mirror's of 34lb and 30-04. Long term regular Alan Collier also landed a Mirror of 32lb. Apologies to al these anglers mentioned for not including their photos but the number of photos here is already building up and there are two more photos that I must include.
Andrew Perkins, staying in Grebe Lodge this weekend extended his PB, with another new 30+ for us. A mint Mirror which looks like it has just come out of 'wrapper. Fantastic and another 'victim' of Bio-Spice. I just love the look of this Carp.
Last, and most definitely not least, is the capture of the Common which we know as 'The Swirl'. This fish gets its name from a very distinctive pattern on its flank just above it's anal fin. It weighed in at 38-08 yesterday and is the only one of the Carp featured in this update which I have seen myself! The successful captor was Dave Martin who was enjoying his second visit to the Cottage, the last being pre-pandemic in 2019.
This Carp, 'The Swirl' was caught earlier in the year in April by Carl Booth at 37b, and first featured in my 30's catalogue at 31lb when caught by Jason Booth in 2019. This big framed Common is clearly growing and thriving in Cherry Lake and could well join the group of 40lbers next year.
Well done to all the anglers mentioned above and apologies to those who caught some lovely big Carp and would normally have been pictured in one of my updates.
Needless to say, we are delighted by the great results recorded over the last few weeks. The relatively warm month has been clearly to the Carp' liking and they have been visibly feeding hard during their 'Autumn hurry-up'. We are particularly excited by the number of 30's as well as a new 40+.
