All lakes producing good fish
Neil Pentecost 41lb Common brings this years running total to 8 different Carp
Friday 12 July 2024
As many of you know, Simon Littmoden is regularly working with us and frequently provides the ‘senior management’ cover for me whilst I am away. If you have not yet met Simon, and you are lucky enough to do so whilst staying at Cherry Lakes, I am sure you will find him a big upgrade on me! He is a very experienced and interested Carp angler. He also ran his own successful fishery in France for ten years. If he makes some suggestions then I think the receiving guest would do well to listen to them.
Simon is also more internet savvy than me and is used to regularly posting on Facebook. He has taken over the task of keeping our Facebook page up to date.
As well as pointing out that the best way of keeping up to date with Cherry Lakes is through Facebook, I have to acknowledge that my more dated Latest News postings are by definition a little repetitive for Facebook followers. Hopefully I can normally find something different to say even if you recognise the photo!
The biggest Carp caught over the last few weeks was this 41lb Common landed from the Cherry Lake Cottage swim. Including this fish, we have had 8 different Carp over 40lb this year. There are still plenty more to come.
Gavin Burkett landed this great looking Common of 34lb from Heron Lodge, see lead photo above, recently when he visited for the first time with his friend James Morris.
I understand that this week (yes I am away again!) that some 15+ Carp including 4 over 30lb’s have been caught from Cherry Lake. More detail to come in due course.
Steve and Dawn Austin have just finished a thoroughly enjoyable first visit to Cherry Lakes when they stayed in Kingfisher Lodge on Cherry Spings. Between them they landed around 20 Carp. Dawn managed the biggest of their stay when she smashed her PB with this 28lb Common pictured below. My favourite fish being this 2lb 6oz Crucian Carp pictured above.
All three of the exclusive lakes have specimen Crucian in, but these are rarely caught. Cherry Pool being the most productive because more anglers float fish etc on this lake. We do know however from our winter nettings that Cherry Springs holds some real big Crucian’s to 4lb+. So if you are booked on any of our lakes we never mind if you bring your float rod, as you never know what you might catch.
David and Susan Pike had a successful trip to Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool. It is great to see another lady angler beating her PB. This time Susan did it by landing an attractive scally Mirror of 27lb.
As we are have mentioned the three other lakes, it would be amiss of me not to mention Cherry Mere. As always Cherry Mere is consistently productive. Graham Cresswell has been fishing this week and almost the first fish of the week was this fabulous 37-02 Mirror. i am sure I will come back to the rest of Graham’s catches in the future, but this beauty was too good to keep out. The Cherry Mere lake record is 37-08 (a different fish). Hopefully the next time this one gets caught it will set a new benchmark (40lb?).
