Aaron Fisher is this weekend’s top rod.

All signs of spawning activity have disappeared with the thunderstorms of the weekend although the water remains warm. My best guess is that the Carp have finished spawning on Cherry Pool and Mere, whilst there are still some Carp yet to spawn on Cherry Lake and Springs. Time will tell.

Two first time guests did very well this weekend on Cherry Lake. Aaron Fisher stayed in Grebe Lodge and was ‘top rod’ with six Carp to 26-04, just pipping Sam Neville in Osprey Lodge who landed 5, the biggest of which was a Ghost Carp of 29-01.

Aaron, who was clearly a very good angler, caught most of his Carp over hempseed and spod mix from a variety of positions in the swim. From memory Aaron had three doubles and three twenties in his six fish catch including this stunning 26-04 Mirror below.

Sam Neillle in Osprey caught both from the middle as well as the far bank. His five fish catch included 3 Carp over 20lb including the 29-01 Ghost Mirror and a great shaped home grown Common of 14lb which could be a monster in the future!
