A 25-08 Ghost Common for Mark and two big Perch for him!
Monday 18 April 2016
A lowish key weekend on Cherry Lakes with one Lodge empty and the guests in the Cottage not fishing. This even gave me a chance to get my rod out for a few hours as I explain below.
Steve Upham was visiting Cherry lake for the second time and broke his ‘duck’ with a splendid 23-08 Common. Mark Dumelow went even better in grebe Lodge and landed two Carp including this cracking Ghost Common of 25-08 below and a 19-12 Mirror.
The guests in Kingfisher Lodge had an amazing trip landing 42 Carp (see the previous update) including 5 twenties to 26-08. Eight Carp and a good number of Bream were also reported from Cherry Pool.
As mentioned above, as the Cottage was not being fished, I thought i would get my match rod out to see if I could land any of Cherry Lake’s Perch. Other than Carp, Perch are the only other species in the lake and are very rarely fished for. In the past we have found dead Perch up to about 4lb. I appreciate it is hard to believe but this was the first time in over 4 years that I had given this a go.
Well I was very pleased that I did! Fishing close in along the ‘house bank’ and regularly feeding maggots, I had over 50 Perch of all sizes, including these two Perch of 2-10 and 2-06 respectively. It does make me wonder how many Perch are in the lake and how big they might grow? A very enjoyable afternoon indeed!
