38lb Cherry Lake Common brings a smile to Danny Taylor!
The biggest of the year came on his first ever Cherry Lake cast!
Monday 1 April 2019
Danny Taylor arrived earlier today to stay in Osprey Lodge. His first ever trip to Cherry Lake. The lake has been very slow over the last week or so, with just one Carp, a 29lb Common, being landed. With the Carp still visibly sunbathing, I spent much of the time trying to dampen expectations amongst our arriving guests, including Danny, and encouraged patience. In fact I probably implied that nothing will get caught until the weather change tomorrow........how little I know! To be fair I did say that I thought the Carp were ready to go.
Danny Taylor took his time getting himself sorted out and was very relaxed. Within an hour or so of his first cast, I got a call to say he had landed a big Common. I am delighted to say the Common looked fantastic and weighed an amazing 38lb. The Carp came to a small pop-up fished just over half way out and fought well. In catching this impressive Carp, Danny has immediately become a member of the Cherry Lakes 35lb+ club and he is the 116th different angler to have caught a 30lb+ Carp from Cherry Lakes.
This Carp was last caught by Marc Lloyd in mid-May 2018 at 32-12 and is just over 5lb up in weight ten months later. A very impressive weight gain. Of the 3 Carp over 30lb+ caught this year, two have been significantly up in weight (5lb and 3lb). I am looking forwards to seeing some of the last years 38 and 39lb Carp being caught. My best guess is that we have a minimum of three Carp over 40lbs+ currently in Cherry Lake. If some of the other big 30's are also up 3-5lb then the number could be more....time will tell.
If you fancy a crack at joining the 30+ club, we have Lodges available for Friday 12-15 April, please call 01285 869887. The normal price has been reduced from £645 to £575 plus a complimentary Spod Mix (saving £30). You never know!
